Tiling work in the entrance area and the canteen kitchen

The word "hygiene" is particularly important in hospitals. Also during the renovation work in the Protestant Hospital Mettmann, the renovation of the entrance area and the canteen kitchen was based on the motto of cleanliness. This placed the highest demands on the installation materials used. Because both areas are exposed to the highest stress every day. If the material does not withstand these stresses, cracks and damage can occur, in which dirt, water and harmful substances can accumulate. An additional challenge for the material and the installer was the rapid progress of work due to the ongoing business within the hospital. In order to meet both requirements, the tile laying company Klaus Dieckerhoff decided to use codex products both for priming the substrate and for waterproofing, laying and grouting the selected ceramic tiles.

As there is often no even surface to be found in renovation objects, the use of a filler is essential. In the first step, however, the absorbent substrate in the entrance area was prepared with FG 300 primer. This was followed by levelling the uneven surface with codex FM 10 Fine Filler, which has excellent application properties and is highly economical and, above all, can be quickly applied. The selected porcelain stoneware was quickly bonded with the flexible thin-bed mortar Power RX 6 Turbo, which is also fast, and then grouted with the highly resilient codex Resist. All in all, efficient work, as products that are optimally matched to one another ensure a time- and cost-saving process and a robust result.

In the highly stressed hospital kitchen, the tiled areas are constantly exposed to aggressive substances - in daily operation by oils and dirt, during cleaning by strongly acidic cleaning agents. The codex products based on epoxy resin guarantee high resistance. The existing substrate was first primed with 2-C Epoxy Primer FG 550. The necessary protection is provided by the Epo 2000 Reactive Sealant, which, when applied afterwards, meets all the requirements of all stress classes and ensures maximum safety, thanks to its water-repellent and chemical-resistant properties. For adhesive and jointing mortar, codex Epo Tix is the obvious choice. The epoxy resin mortar is particularly resistant to mechanical and chemical stress. The joints are long-lasting and, thanks to its water- and dirt-repellent surface, easy to clean and therefore permanently hygienic.

Products used

FG 550 2-C Epoxy Primer

codex FG 550 is a 2-C Epoxy Primer for absorbent and non-absorbent substrates. It is used as a system component for codex epoxy composite sealants and codex epoxy and PU adhesives.

2-C epoxy mortar

codex X-Tensive is suitable for bonding and jointing ceramic stone coverings in areas subject to high chemical or mechanical stress. The joint is easy to clean due to the closed joint surface.

FG 300 Primer

codex FG 300 is a dispersion primer for absorbent, mineral substrates. The FG 300 is versatile, water-dilutable and easy to use and offers highest safety due to its good penetration capacity.

FM 10 Fine levelling compound

codex FM 10 is a self-levelling smoothing compound for interior use in layer thicknesses up to 10 mm.

Epo 2000 Reactive sealing

The codex Epo 2000 reactive sealant is a flexible, two-component epoxy resin composite sealant under ceramic coverings. codex Epo 2000 is a flexible, composite sealant for surfaces exposed to particularly high levels of moisture and wetness, even those exposed to high chemical loads.

High-strength cement grout mortar

The high-strength codex resist cement grout is a mechanically resistant, very fast setting grout for joint widths from 2 to 20 mm. It is highly resistant to abrasion and high-pressure cleaners and sets quickly and reliably even at low temperatures.
