With the fashion label Akris, the clothing company founded in 1922 in St. Gallen, Switzerland, has developed into a world-class prêt-à-porter brand. The couture house has its own boutiques in major cities such as New York, Seoul, London and Paris. In Germany there are three locations so far, as well as the new address in Munich's Residenzstrasse. The complete renovation of the new Akris boutique in Munich's prime city location had to be completed in a very short time. The demanding design guidelines of the Swiss fashion company specified a noble interior made of high-quality materials.

Installation art

The floor covering, made of 20 mm thick and water-blasted Spanish marble elements, should run from the first floor via a winding staircase up to the second floor. A special feature was the cloverleaf installation, rounded edge friezes and freely suspended balustrade elements. The limited load-bearing capacity and construction height of the ceilings on the first upper floor also had to be taken into account during the redesign. This task was mastered through brilliant cooperation between craftsmen, site managers and planners.

Interior fittings and laying of natural stone

For the interior design the key philosophy of the company was "noble materials, simple forms and creative, professional processing".Throughout the entire first floor, the specialists from Fliesen Abel from Otzing in Lower Bavaria produced marble slabs measuring 60 x 60 cm. For the upper floor, the curved elements, approximately 20 x 80 cm in length, were used as edge tiles; the carpet was stretched between them. Another special feature was the cloverleaf installation, which reflects the carpenter's ceiling construction. In total, the installation time was only about three weeks.

Fast, light and load-bearing floor construction with the Turbolight system

"In addition to craftsmanship, an optimal floor result always includes a well thought-out floor structure," says Joachim Fülle, Head of codex Application Technology at Uzin Utz SE. Only just under three months were left for the conversion of the 300 m² sales area in the Munich fashion boutique. Therefore, the construction of a stable and level surface had to be completed as quickly as possible. Due to the low construction height and limited load-bearing capacity of the ceiling on the second floor, only a light and flexible floor construction was considered as a solution. The planners opted for the Uzin-Turbolight system, whose laying materials allow level compensation over a large area of up to 300 mm, with extremely low weight per unit area, short drying times and high strength. This meant that the natural stone laid with the quick-setting white thin-bed mortar codex Stone SX 80 could be sanded without any problems after a very short time using a floor sanding machine weighing around 600 kg.

Design and mode of action of the Uzin-Turbolight-System

The flexible lightweight levelling mortar Uzin NC 914 Turbo adapts itself flexibly to uneven substrates and distributes the loads occurring evenly over the load-bearing substrate. The second component of the system is a renovation fleece made of high-tensile long glass fibers fixed with a water-soluble adhesive.   These combine with the tile levelling compound codex FM 50 Turbo as the third component to form a high-strength fibre composite that contributes to the exceptionally high load-bearing capacity of the entire system. According to DIN 1055, all load requirements of Class A for living areas and those of B1 and B2 for office areas can be met. The system tests carried out also confirm the robustness of the system. The Uzin-Turbolight-System can be applied using standard screed and smoothing compound techniques, accelerates curing and drying and is ready for covering very quickly. The impact sound reduction is 10 dB (TVM according to DIN EN ISO 140-8, measured with ceramic tiles). Thus the entire system also has a remarkable footfall sound insulation

Products used

Brillant Cristal Rapid colour grout mortar

codex Brillant Cristal is a rapid setting, flexible colour grout mortar with crystalline water binding properties for tile and natural stone coverings with joint widths from 1 to 10 mm. Rapid setting prevents discolouration of the edges.

Stone SX 80 cristal Rapid setting white flex mortar

codex Stone SX 80 cristal is a white, fast setting, flex-thin bed adhesive with crystalline water binding properties for natural stone coverings. Due to its rapid and crystalline water binding properties, codex Stone SX 80 Cristal is quickly walkable and increases safety when laying natural stone with high water absorption.

FG 300 Primer

codex FG 300 is a dispersion primer for absorbent, mineral substrates. The FG 300 is versatile, water-dilutable and easy to use and offers highest safety due to its good penetration capacity.

FM 50 Turbo Tiling Levelling Compound

The tile filler codex FM 50 Turbo is a self-levelling cement floor levelling compound for layer thicknesses of 3-50 mm. codex FM 50 Turbo hardens very quickly and is ready for covering early, even in thick layers.
