Fast sealing and laying systems
Tiling work and a lot of know-how from codex was asked for the construction of this superlative basketball campus.
On a 18,000 m² tall area, directly at the banks of the Danube, the big basketball club from Ulm BBU´01 built one of the biggest basketball trainings- and performance centres in whole Europe. Orange Campus offers three gyms, a foyer with a fan shop, a fitness centre including sauna and spa area, offices with meeting and conference rooms, in- and outdoor gastronomy connected with a commercial kitchen and a freely accessible, outdoor sports park on an area of approximately 12.500 m². The whole complex stands out through the big usage possibilities that become possible through several attractive floor areas with different requirements. Especially for the professional tiling and sealing of approximately 2.800 m² floors and walls in the kitchen and spa area, certified products and Know-How was requested. The big challenges for the construction site have been the bad climatic properties and the very critical time schedule. At this point, codex made the game. With a lot of know-How and a detailed coordination of planners, craftsmen and technical advisors, we helped to complete the project successfully and on time.
Professional sealing of wellness- and shower areas
The professional sealing of the floor- and wall areas that should be tiled had to work fastly and reliable. Due to its very fast construction progress and the high safety promise, the water resistant and crack-bridging sealing and decoupling membrane codex Hydrostop was used. It consists out of a Polyethylene sheet with fleece fabric applied on both sides – ready for laying due to a printed cutting grid – and is easy to apply. The material has very low emissions, suitable for healthy housing construction and it suits the reliable sealing of moist-stressed substrates in shower installations in residential, commercial and industrial areas. Codex Hydrostop, which is available in 100 and 140 cm width, reaches the water impact classes W0-I, W1-I and W2-I according to DIN 18534. The sealing membrane became glued onto the substrate with a fast and flexible thin- and fluid-bed mortar codex Power RX 6 Turbo. It enabled further working steps after already 2 ½ hours. The joints and the connections to drains, gutters and penetrations were sealed with the matching codex sealing tapes, wall collars and sealing corners in combination with the fast-setting 1-component flex sealing compound codex AX 230. Joints were bonded with the 1-component hybrid sealing and assembly adhesive codex SK 100.
The planned large format tiles in the spa- and shower area were laid with the proven large-format adhesive codex RX 8, which is a highly flexible thin- and flow-bed adhesive with crystalline water retention. The remaining areas were laid with the lightweight multi-purpose flexible adhesive codex Power CX 7.
When using the cementitious grout mortar codex Resist, it was important that the grout can withstand the mechanical stresses through a high frequency of cleaning in the long term. It contains highest resistance against abrasion and dries quickly even at low temperatures.
Sealing in the commercial kitchen
An accurate sealing is one of the basic constructional requirements for commercial kitchens. Therefore, the installation materials have to be water- and fat resistant and they have to withstand mechanical and chemical stresses through cleaning agents. Due to the usage of the kitchen within the Orange Campus, it is, different as usual, not to be determined as a highly stressed area. In close contact with the planner and the builder the sealing was made as a special construction with usage of codex Hydrostop and a cement-based bonding and grouting.
Solution for the kitchen: Thin-bed mortar and sealing sheet
Due to the rapid and reliable drying of the low shrinkage and dimensionally stable fast screed SC 980, it was possible to prime after already 12 hours with codex FG 300. The sealing on walls and floors was realized with the sealing- and stress-relief sheet codex Hydrostop and the respective formed parts. Joint bonding was carried out with the 1-component hybrid sealing and installation adhesive SK 100. Afterwards, wall-tiles were laid with the multi-purpose flexible mortar codex Power CX 7 and the non-slip floor tiles with the fast, flexible thin- and flow-bed adhesive codex Power RX 6 Turbo. Finally the grouting was implemented with the highly resilient cementitious grout mortar codex Resist. As the grouts need to be chemical but especially mechanical resistant, the codex Resist´s high resistance was decisive for its usage.
All our products were optimally matched to each other in their application and thus guaranteed fast and safe construction progress.
Power CX 7 Multi-Flex Mortar
The lightweight multi-flex adhesive, codex Power CX 7, can be adjusted according to the tiler's needs as a flow-bed, thin-bed or medium-bed mortar or for levelling and thus covers 90% of all tiling work. Thanks to lightweight fillers, the CX 7 is not only productive but also particularly light.
Hydrostop Sealing and stress-relieving roll
codex Hydrostop is a water-impermeable, crack-bridging sealing and decoupling membrane under tile and natural stone coverings. Suitable for reliable sealing of substrates exposed to moisture.
SK 100 1-C hybrid structural adhesive
The ready-to-use sealing and assembly adhesive codex SK 100 provides superior adhesion under the most difficult conditions. As a 1-component hybrid adhesive, it reliably bonds waterproofing membranes and sealing tapes. The codex SK 100 adhesive promises maximum adhesive strength on all materials: from tiles and wooden strips to metal and non-woven.
AX 230 1-C flex sealing compound
The High-Tec 1-component flex sealing slurry codex AX 230 is a flexible composite waterproofing for surfaces that are particularly exposed to moisture and wetness.
