Millions of litres of beer and many thousands of meals: The floor of the Löwenbräukeller in Munich must be able to withstand a lot.

In Munich's Löwenbräukeller, the cooks, waiters and guests walk past on floor and wall systems from codex.
Since 1883, the Löwenbräukeller on Munich's Stiglmaierplatz has been more than just an inhouse pub: the magnificent building with its striking round tower is a meeting place and event location for locals and visitors to the Bavarian capital. In addition to everyday business in the traditional house, the premises are also used for carnival parties and traditional costume balls, where the floor is exposed to even harder wear and tear.
Commercial kitchens
In the three kitchens in total, an epoxy resin-based system was chosen to cope with the high loads on canteen kitchen floors and walls. A two-component reactive waterproofing system from codex was used for waterproofing. Through the additional application of codex sealing tapes, external and internal sealing corners and sealing collars, the substrate was ideally prepared for the special conditions in a canteen kitchen. The easy-care tiles used in the kitchens were grouted with the chemically resistant epoxy resin mortar codex Epo Tix. Before the floors and walls of the Löwenbräukeller were released, after cleaning with codex Epo Wash and Epo Clean, the outstanding movement, connection and field boundary joints still had to be sealed with a codex silicone joint sealant SG 10.
„Braustüberl“
The floor (mixed base of mastic asphalt with repaired areas and partly strong cracks) of the "Bräustüberl" restaurant with about 150 seats was very old.
Before the floor was laid again, it was primed and sprinkled with quartz sand while still fresh. Once the primer was dry, the self-levelling cement floor levelling compound, codex FM 50 Turbo, was applied, which is ready to be walked on and laid after just two hours. The Multimoll Top 4 Decoupling Mat was installed as a decoupling element. The synthetic resin-bonded polyester fibre pressboard with a thickness of four millimetres serves not only for decoupling but also for footfall sound insulation and has a stress-reducing effect. The new natural stone slabs, which are an ideal visual match for the traditional house with its original Bavarian charm, were used with the highly plasticised, white thin-bed mortar codex Stone Flex. After grouting with codex Brilliant Flex Basic and closing the connection and field boundary joints, the floor of the "Bräustüberl" was ready for the countless steps and kicks of the hungry and thirsty guests.
Storage, ancillary and sanitary rooms.
The surfaces of the ancillary and storage rooms as well as the sanitary rooms of the Löwenbräukeller were prepared for sealing with codex NC 210. The two-component dispersion-cement sealant is the appropriate substrate for the rooms, which are predominantly exposed to moisture. The polymer-modified thin-bed mortar codex Power CX 3, which can be applied directly without maturing time, formed the bed for the tiles used. Thanks to the high-strength, special cementitious jointing mortar, codex Resist, and the silicone joint sealant, codex quadroSil, daily cleaning with washing water and additives is not a problem, which is especially important in the gastronomy industry with its high hygienic standards.
