Modern ice and event arena with impressive
panel works opened in Visp.
In the Valais community of Visp, a new ice hockey arena adorns the townscape. After an intensive 18-month construction period, the Lonza Arena was officially opened in time for the start of the 2019/2020 ice hockey season. For the 35 million Swiss franc project, codex products were used for the laying of the tiles over an area of 2,500 m²
So far, the ice hockey club Visp has played its home games in the Litternahalle. But this hall has become quite old and it did no longer meet the safety requirements of the Swiss Hockey League. With the Lonza Arena, the municipality of Visp has received a new event hall tailored to its needs, with space for around 5,000 people. The arena was built to the Minergie standard for ice rinks and has a very innovative ice technology system. The modern and bright hall will serve as home base for the EHC Visp from the Swiss League and will further be used for public ice skating.
Sanitary facilities implemented with codex
The multi-functional arena has nine dressing rooms, the largest of them - with washroom, massage room and fitness room - is used by the first team of the EHC Visp. In the shower areas of the checkrooms and in the toilets, which were completely realized in red and black, codex products were used. Further panel work was carried out in the kitchen of the catering area.
New products from codex in action
The lightweight multiadhesive codex Power CX 7, newly launched at the beginning of 2019, was used for the panel work in the Lonza Arena. Thanks to light-weight fillers, the codex Power CX 7 is extremely economical and, at the same time, not only light in weight, but also easy to handle and process.
The unique epoxy joint, codex X-Fusion, was also used. The coloured reaction resin mortar codex X-Fusion is very easy to mix and extremely easy to apply. Thanks to the fine, closed and water-repellent joint surface, the joint is very easy to care for, extremely hygienic and therefore ideally suited for use in shower areas.
Play it safe with codex AX 230
A special feature of the work in the Lonza Arena was the cold temperatures.
While the workers were busy with the wardrobes in the basement, the shell of the building was still standing above without doors. The temperature was around 5 - 6 degrees Celsius. But codex had the right solution for this. Thanks to a new combination of raw materials, the new codex AX 230 waterproofing system dries quickly and reliably even at low temperatures and delivers very good results.
Great confidence in codex products
During six intensive weeks seven workers of the company GZ Plättli-Unterlagsboden AG worked in the hall. Thanks to the long and good partnership and the great trust in the products of codex, the company relied on the high-quality products for the processing. Despite a strict schedule, the Lonza Arena was successfully opened in time for the start of the new ice hockey season in September 2019.
