The heart of the new Alnatura Campus in the southwest of Darmstadt is the company' s headquarter: Alnatura working world. The platinum DGNB-certified office building - the largest in Europe with exterior facades made of clay - offers space for 420 employees with a gross floor area of 13,500 m². On the 55,000 m² campus there is also the public "Waldorf Kindergarten", the 400 m² vegetarian restaurant tibits as well as school and adventure gardens. The particularly environmentally friendly and energy-efficient buildings are characterized by their simple, natural aesthetics and the sustainable use of existing resources. All building materials therefore had to meet high ecological criteria and satisfy the demands for sustainability and healthy living. The challenge was the professional sealing of floors and walls in the canteen kitchen and the sanitary facilities of the daycare center, for which codex supplied the appropriate tile-laying materials, which were exclusively certified with EMICODE EC1 Plus.
Challenge commercial kitchen
The high chemical load in the canteen kitchen also required the use of products for the highest water impact class W3-I. This meant that the epoxy resin composite waterproofing Epo 2000, the codex sealing tapes and the 3-component Design Epoxy Joint Mortar X-Fusion were used, all of which meet the requirements. It was very important to ensure that the sealing flange was watertight when connected to the composite seal. The connections of the sealings are generally to be attached to all installation parts according to the standards. This was particularly important when sealing the box gutter in the canteen kitchen.
High indoor air quality for the little ones
All materials used for sealing and laying the 10 x 10 cm ceramic tiles in the WCs and bathrooms of the Alnatura kindergarten also meet the requirements for healthy living products. They are certified with EMICODE EC1 Plus, have very low emissions and do not pollute the air in the room. "We were able to choose from the wide range of products offered by codex; we always had the right certified products available", confirms Rainer Mauz, Managing Director of Fliesen Mauz. "This also applies to products that dry through reliably and quickly.
